Week 3 of Directing. First thing monday morning, GAH hangover. But i did somehow manage to get the question we were proposed. WHY DO WE MAKE SHORT FILMS?
My main reason for making short films, FUN. But there does come a time when you need to make money. And obviously we all want to make money out of doing the things we love. So some of the reasons why we make short films is to put into practice what we learn, experiment with no budget, try and get a profile for our selves. Something that i did learn today that i didn't expect was to make a short film to actually show what the feature film could look like, and use the short in pitches to get peoples attention.

And for ones eyeballs this week.......SPIDERS. I have this love/hate thing about spiders. There so cool and majestic some how but then there so freaky, creepy and being australia, mostly poisonous.

Soooo, week 2 of Directing class, we discussed themes.
So the question proposed to us this week is What is a THEME?
And a theme my friends is EVERYTHING LEADS TO DEATH!!!. NO. This is wrong. That's not all i learnt. Yes i know amazing im learnading things. A theme in a film is what the directer is trying to get across to the viewer. A moral or message. And a moral premise is a one sentence description of the physical and psychological arcs of the main characters. Its basically what happens in the film, what does the hero have to overcome to achieve his goals or ultimate undoing, such as,
Vice leads to Defeat eg. hatred leads to death/destruction
Virture leads to Success eg. selflessness/sacrifice leads to victory/happiness

And once again for ones viewing perversions....
This short vid of about a minute long was done about august maybe october last year. It doesnt really have a story and i dont know if its going to go anywhere. But myself and Terrence Hewson had camera gear for an extra night from a job we did and thought what the hell we got a night with all this gear free of charge lets smash something out. Looked pretty cool i thought.

I wasn't here for week one of directing class, a poor start to the year i know. But im a sucker for the superbowl what can i say.
So week 1 for Directing Class :WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A DIRECTOR

Well, in my opinion i believe a director is someone who creates an idea or takes an idea someone else has come up with and puts his/her vision and soul into it. A director must be confident, creative, have passion, be able to take words and turn them into vision, a story teller and have an eye for detail. These are some of the many attributes a director contains.

For your viewing pleasure........... A homage to Dead Island i created (minus the music) with the help of some others in our tafe class. This was my first shoot at night so be nice. There's some flaws. Also quite rushed.
